Liverpool has been hit with a possible transfer blow in their pursuit of World Cup winner Ferran Torres this summer.
The Reds were linked with what would be a stunning move for the Spanish attacker who found the net for his nation against Argentina in Sunday's World Cup Final.
It would be the winning strike for the country and trigger discussions about his future at Barcelona. Torres is currently entering the final year of his contract at Camp Nou and that has alerted clubs to his potential availability. Liverpool has an interest in the former Manchester City talent while he has also been touted for a move to Paris Saint-Germain. The Ligue 1 giants recently sold striker Goncalo Ramos to AC Milan and need attackers, as does Liverpool.
An exit from his current club is not out of the question for Torres who made 49 appearances in all competitions last term for the Catalan giants. In that period of time he scored an impressive 21 strikes and provided his team with three assists in the process. Barcelona had initially been reportedly willing to cash in on their talent given his deal ends next year but now that information has changed.
According to Sport.es, the club wish to sign Torres down to a new deal on fresh, improved terms to keep him beyond his deadline in 2027.
The same publication does suggest, though, that Barcelona is not aware of any transfer speculation, concrete or otherwise, in their star man and wishes to keep things that way.
Barca is in discussions with the player's representation as a new deal could still happen. Torres would not be the only World Cup winning player in the Anfield ranks should he make the decision to move back to the Premier League after five years in La Liga with Barca.

Liverpool snapped up Victor Munoz from Osasuna earlier this transfer window. And while the 23-year-old did not play a minute for his nation during their run to the triumph in New York, Munoz certainly celebrated as though he had put in a match winning performance every fixture.
Torres is not the only option for the Reds this summer, however, with the transfer window in full swing.
PSG wide player Bradley Barcola is wanted by Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola who knows reinforcements are imperative if the team is to progress both domestically and in Europe this coming campaign.
Yan Diomande is also wanted to play in front of the Kop although Liverpool faces competition for the Ivorian.

As many as six clubs want Diomande this summer with PSG believed to be the player's preference. Chelsea and Real Madrid have also been credited with an interest in the winger while Manchester United is said to be keen.
