Liverpool are expected to allow Calvin Ramsay to leave after their pre-season tour of the United States, with interest in the right-back now emerging.

Ramsay is into the final year of his contract at Liverpool and has struggled to break through under his two previous managers.

While considered a reliable emergency option and a solid hand in training, the 22-year-old has only made four appearances in the past four seasons.

Injuries have blighted his progress, including on loan at Preston, Bolton, Wigan and Kilmarnock, while his spell with the latter means he is not eligible as a homegrown player in the Premier League.

Turning 23 at the end of July, Ramsay is likely to leave this summer, and The Athletic report on growing interest from a host of clubs in Scotland.

It is unclear which sides hold an interest but the likes of Dundee and Kilmarnock are almost certain to be in the market for a new right-back given their current options.

Ramsay came through the academy with boyhood club Aberdeen and made 39 appearances for their first team before earning his £4.2 million move to Liverpool in 2022.

That deal also included £2.5 million in add-ons, with those targets unlikely to have been met, and a 17.5 percent sell-on clause which could affect any deal this summer.

Why Calvin Ramsay is likely to leave later in the summer

A move should only come after Liverpool’s time in the United States, however, with Ramsay set to feature in friendlies against Sunderland, Wrexham and Leeds.

While Conor Bradley has travelled as part of an initial 31-man squad he will not take part in any of those games as he continues his recovery from a serious knee injury.

That leaves Jeremie Frimpong as the only right-back available to Andoni Iraola and the Dutchman may be required further forward in attack.

Ramsay’s performances in pre-season could even put him further into the shop window for clubs outside of Scotland seeking a player whose standards have been honed working under Jurgen Klopp and later Arne Slot.

There had long been hope that he could establish himself as a regular in the Liverpool squad, but his stunted development and the emergence of Bradley have seen him fall behind.

A permanent transfer this summer would suit all parties, allowing Ramsay to settle at a new home and embark on a senior career that has been delayed for too long.
