Arsenal are preparing an “improved offer” for Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes, according to reports.
TalkSPORT claim that Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has made the Brazilian international his “priority signing” for the summer transfer window.
So far, the Magpies have reportedly rejected two bids for Guimaraes, with the last said to be worth £65m.
It remains to be seen whether this latest attempt to secure the midfielder’s services will prove to be successful.
How much do Newcastle want for Guimaraes?
TalkSPORT report that the 28-year-old’s price tag could be as high as £100m, but other sources have suggested that a figure in the region of £80m to £85m would be accepted.
Either way, Arsenal will need to make a significant improvement on their last offer for Guimaraes if they want to secure the services of Arteta’s top target.
Are Arsenal looking at any alternatives?
Bournemouth’s Alex Scott is believed to be still on the London club’s radar, despite having a formal enquiry knocked back for the player several weeks ago.
The 22-year-old has less than two years left on his contract at the Vitality Stadium, and he has rejected a new deal.
Scott has made it clear that he has no interest in putting pen to paper on an extension, even though Bournemouth are reportedly willing to include a release clause.
The Gunners are not the only Premier League club who are said to be monitoring the midfielder’s situation, with Chelsea and Manchester United also among his suitors.
For now, it seems as if Guimaraes is the Premier League champions’ main focus. Arteta clearly wants him to make the move to the Emirates, and the player is thought to be very open to the idea.
Everything now depends on whether Newcastle let him leave for a price that Arsenal are willing to pay.
