Chelsea embark on their pre-season tour of Australia and Asia this week, ahead of their first friendly against Western Sydney Wanderers on July 28.
Xabi Alonso took charge of the Blues earlier this month and has inherited a side that finished tenth in the Premier League last term, meaning they won’t compete in Europe during the upcoming campaign.
So far this summer Chelsea have completed the signings of Geovany Quenda and Marco Palestra – from Sporting CP and Atalanta respectively – and it appears that they are now closing in on the signing of Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers.
According to Fabrizio Romano, both Alejandro Garnacho and Nicolas Jackson were mentioned during talks between Chelsea and Villa about a deal for Rogers.
Romano previously claimed that the west London side had agreed a deal to sign Rogers on a long-term deal, for a fee of £117 million.
Now, he claims that both Garnacho and Jackson were mentioned during the negotiations, with the two players touted as possible targets for Villa.

Jackson, 25, joined Chelsea from Villarreal in 2023 and scored 30 goals in 81 games for the club in all competitions before being sent on loan to Bayern Munich last summer following the arrival of Nicolas Jackson.
Garnacho, meanwhile, arrived from rivals Manchester United last summer but failed to make too much of an impression during his debut campaign at Stamford Bridge.
The Argentine netted just eight times in 43 games for the Blues last season, and both players could be allowed to leave the club for the right price this summer.
While Villa are interested in Garnacho, Romano claims that the winger is currently prioritising a potential move to Italian side Roma, although a deal has not yet been agreed between the two clubs.
