Bruno Guimaraes## Arsenal and Newcastle have not engaged in direct talks over a bid for Bruno Guimaraes
12:55, 21 Jul 2026
Newcastle sources have claimed that there still remains no bid, offers or even direct contact between themselves and Arsenal over Bruno Guimaraes - despite reports recently suggesting the two side had opened talks.
football.london understands that plenty of discussions behind the scenes have been done so through intermediaries. Super agent Kia Joorabchian is involved in helping sort out Guimaraes’ future.
The Brazilian midfielder has understood to make it known to The Magpies that he wishes to leave this summer in search of the chance of winning big honours. Arsenal is the club of choice with the club equally interested.

However, the valuation Arsenal have of the 28-year-old, who turns 29 this November and whose contract expires in less than two years, is significantly lower than that of Newcastle United.
Newcastle have already lost Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali, which helped balance the books and, importantly, means the pressure to sell Guimaraes is not there as it perhaps would have been. Newcastle have still been working on midfield signings, however, securing Sean Steur and have reportedly Botafogo’s Danilo, formerly of Nottingham Forest, also in consideration.
After Arsenal missed out on the signing of Morgan Rogers, for whom Chelsea agreed a £117million transfer, there is growing pressure not to miss out on other key targets such as Guimaraes. Especially when it is very clear publicly that the player wants a move to North London.
However, the club remains keen to stick to their valuation of players, hence why the deal for Rogers did not happen, and Chelsea stole a march on their London rivals. This one appears to have the legs to go the distance this summer unless something dramatically changes.
Sporting director Andrea Berta is leading Arsenal’s transfer business this summer. However, football.london understands that intermediaries have been key in discussions over potential targets without much, if at all, direct contact from Berta or officials at Arsenal and other clubs.

So far Arsenal have signed Piero Hincapie and Illan Meslier. The Ecuadorian international was pre-agreed to join this summer, while the goalkeeper was a free agent.
Christos Tzolis is expected to join this week and is in North London to complete a £34million move from Club Brugge.
