Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Liverpool may now be happy to “listen to offers” for Harvey Elliott before the end of the summer transfer window.
Elliott is looking to prove himself to Andoni Iraola during pre-season for the Reds, following a year of going backwards on loan at Aston Villa, despite winning the Europa League.
O’Rourke has recently stated that the 23-year-old may well have a future at Liverpool, saying: “It’s obviously a big few weeks coming up for Harvey Elliott, a chance to impress the new manager in pre-season, and if he does do that, he could win his place back in that Liverpool side.
“It’s a clean slate for everybody under a new manager in Andoni Iraola, and I think he’ll give him a chance to impress as well. I think Liverpool won’t be rushing him out the door.”
But now, again speaking to Football Insider, O’Rourke has hinted that Liverpool may not be reluctant in selling Elliott if the right offer comes along this summer:
“Obviously if he doesn’t fit the bill for what Iraola is looking for during these opening weeks of pre-season, then Liverpool might have to listen to offers for Harvey Elliott as well due to his contract situation. He’s going into his final year as well.”

The positives outweigh the negatives with Elliott for Liverpool, with the attacking midfielder such a talented footballer who can provide great depth, being lauded by Joe Cole last year:
“I love the kid, he plays football the right way. I am excited for his future. He has done a great job for Liverpool, but if he decides to move on, there are levels to move on again. That passion, he can show every week.”
Granted, Elliott will have to accept a squad role if he stays, but if Iraola sees enough in pre-season to persevere with him, it makes perfect sense to retain his services.
A big offer for the Englishman will understandably make the Reds consider accepting it, though, and if the player himself wants to leave for a new challenge, moving him on would be the best outcome for all parties.
