News broke on Monday that Arsenal are lining up a fresh transfer move. This comes after the club missed out on a top attacking target. The north London side have now entered the race for a highly rated RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande.
Arsenal shift focus to Yan Diomande
As reported by Goal, Arsenal have made contact over a move for Yan Diomande. This came after their pursuit of Morgan Rogers fell apart at the final stage. Mikel Arteta wants fresh attacking options before the window closes. Diomande scored 13 goals and set up eight assists in 33 games for Leipzig this season. That record has made him one of the most sought-after young talents in European football.
Leipzig are holding out for a fee close to £102 million. As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal had reached out to the player’s camp “to understand if there was still a chance to enter the deal.”That kind of late approach usually signals genuine interest rather than a passing check. On the pitch, Diomande offers pace, direct running, and a real threat in one-on-one duels. In a tactical sense, that profile suits Arteta’s system well. The Gunners have often lacked a direct dribbler out wide. Adding him to the front line would give the team a sharper edge on the counter attack.
Diomande’s stats in the 2025-26 season, as per FOTMOB:
Competitions Matches Goals Assists Successful passes Duels won %
Bundesliga 33 12 8 896 47%
DFB Pokal 3 1 1 94 65%
Chelsea hijack deal for Morgan Rogers
Arsenal had spent weeks building a deal for Rogers. They saw the Aston Villa forward as their clear priority for the window. That plan fell apart when Chelsea stepped in with a record-breaking £117 million bid. It was a fee Villa were not willing to turn down.
Romano called the move a major blow for Arsenal. As reported by Sky Sports, Rogers had been their number one target for months, and talks were already moving well behind the scenes. Chelsea’s late offer changed everything. As per FOTMOB, Rogers has scored 10 goals and set up six assists in 37 Premier League games this season. Those numbers explain why two rival clubs went after him.
Losing a top target to a Premier League rival changes a club’s plans overnight. Romano believes the switch to Chelsea will have knock-on effects across the rest of the market. Arsenal already appear to be feeling that pressure. Their quick pivot toward Diomande looks like a direct response to that setback.
Liverpool and PSG complicate Arsenal’s chase
Arsenal will not find it easy to sign Yan Diomande. Both Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain have been watching him for months. PSG appear to hold the upper hand at this stage. As reported by Romano, the player already has a deal in place over personal terms with the French club. Liverpool remain firmly in the picture too. They see the winger as a long-term option for a forward line that keeps getting older.
Arsenal have still made calls to learn the full picture around Diomande. This shows they are not ready to walk away just yet. There is also a second story building away from Leipzig. Arsenal are keeping a close watch on Julian Alvarez amid tension between Atletico Madrid and Barcelona. If that relationship breaks down, Arsenal could look to move in August. For now, the Diomande chase remains the main focus.
