Arsenal have reportedly stepped up their efforts to sign Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes, but may have seemingly changed their previous plans for the transfer.
Guimaraes has been heavily linked with a move to the Gunners all summer and reportedly expressed a wish to leave Newcastle earlier in the window.
The 28-year-old remains under contract at St James’ Park until 2028, and The Times have reported that Arsenal have now opened talks with Newcastle over a deal for the midfielder.
The report claims that Arsenal had previously made it clear they would be prepared to pay up to £60million to sign Guimaraes this summer.
However, Newcastle are seemingly determined to maintain their £75million valuation, meaning Arsenal would need to change their plans in order to meet the Magpies’ valuation.
A separate report from The Telegraph has claimed that Newcastle have been left "mystified" by the reports claiming they have begun talks with Arsenal over a deal for Guimaraes.
It remains to be seen if an agreement will be reached between Arsenal and Newcastle for Guimaraes, who was recently with the Brazil squad for this summer’s World Cup.
Guimaraes was part of the Brazil squad that reached the last-16 stage in North America, before the Selecao were denied a quarter-final spot thanks to a defeat to Norway.
The Newcastle star will now be on a summer break before returning to pre-season duties in the next few weeks, and it remains to be seen if that will be with Arsenal or Newcastle.
The report does suggest, though, that if Arsenal were to make an offer of around £75million, it would give the Magpies something to think about.

The update comes on the back of reports emerging that Arsenal had reached an agreement for an improved sponsorship deal with Emirates, which is believed to be worth around £70million.
Arsenal have been heavily linked with signing a new midfielder this summer as they prepare to defend their Premier League title, which resumes next month.
The Gunners have also been planning to strengthen their forward options, having recently agreed a deal to sell Leandro Trossard to Besiktas for around £17million.
Morgan Rogers was a target for Arsenal this summer, but is now expected to seal a £117million switch to Chelsea instead.
Newcastle will be determined to keep Guimaraes at the club, particularly after already sanctioning two major sales earlier in the window.
Tottenham Hotspur signed Sandro Tonali in a deal worth £100million earlier this summer, while Anthony Gordon moved to Barcelona in a £69million transfer before the start of the World Cup.
