On Monday, Patrick Beverley posted on X that LeBron James was going to announce his free agent decision that same day.
Those of you reading this, on Tuesday, will be well aware that such an announcement has not been made. James remains a free agent.
Beverley, the long-time NBA point guard, apparently didn't have a rock-solid source, although that hasn't stopped him from taking to X on Tuesday and posting this:

There are a couple possibilities at play here.
One is that Beverley simply wanted attention. He could've entirely fabricated his information on Monday, and it still was going to get people talking and get folks wanting to know what Beverley might know.
Another is that Beverley simply didn't have a sound reporting process. Not every piece of information that an insider like ESPN's Shams Charania gets is reported. He vets that info in all kinds of different ways, and he learns over time who the most trustworthy "sources" are. Not just anyone can be a source.
Maybe Beverley was misled. Maybe he rushed. Maybe he made it up.
There will be more LeBron speculation, analysis and even "reporting" before the moment when we actually know where he's going to play next season.
It's safe to say Beverley may be better off staying out of the reporting game going forward, though.
