Mohamed Salah bid an emotional farewell to Liverpool on the final day of the Premier League season, but replacing him is going to be an almighty, if not impossible, challenge.
The Egyptian scored 257 and assisted 123 goals for Liverpool in 442 games between 2017 and 2026, winning the Premier League twice and the Champions League once, while collecting three domestic cup winners’ medals.
Replacing his impact will likely require multiple attackers, with reports stating that Chelsea’s Neto is a name under consideration this summer.

He said: _“Liverpool are now on the alternate list. Liverpool seem to be back in bed with Jorge Mendes, whose client is Pedro Neto. Our info is getting this stood up today. Neto would jump at this. They nearly did him when he was at Wolves.”_

The report reads: “_Another winger, Pedro Neto, has also been left off Chelsea’s ‘not for sale list’. But he is still highly regarded and it will take significantly more than Garnacho’s figure to prise him away.”_
Chelsea want £50m for Garnacho.
With all due respect to Neto, it’s not difficult to understand why Chelsea are happy to sell him given he managed just five goals and six assists in 2,643 Premier League minutes last season. For comparison, Salah managed seven goals and seven assists in roughly 300 fewer minutes in his worst-ever season at Liverpool.
Neto is not the right move for Liverpool

In Neto, you get a willing runner and a very, very pacy attacker. That said, Liverpool are trying to replace the best-ever right winger, so to do so with a player who ranked 57th for goals scored in the 2025/26 season would border on insulting.
I liked Neto when he was at Wolves, but he is not a world-class operator, and that’s what Liverpool need. At 26, his best days are upon him so unless he suddenly transforms the way Salah did when he moved to Liverpool, it’s hard to see this being the blockbuster signing the Reds need.
