The Los Angeles Lakers have found a few 3-and-D wings who could come in and make a relatively decent impact for them.
The most recent one was the Lakers taking a flyer on Matisse Thybulle, a guy who has been really good at times but has battled injuries over the past two seasons.
It remains uncertain whether the Lakers still want to take a chance on other young players, especially Jonathan Kuminga. According to the latest report, however, the Lakers aren't motivated to move draft capital to land him.
“The Athletic has reported on the Lakers’ interest in free agent Jonathan Kuminga since late June, but it appears that momentum has stalled with the sides far apart on terms and L.A. not overly motivated to push significant draft capital into sign-and-trade scenarios. Still, he appears to be the biggest upside play left on the table, and could re-emerge as a target if his market remains tepid. Cleveland, according to league sources, is the team most often connected to Kuminga other than the Lakers,” Dan Woike wrote.
Unfortunately for Los Angeles, it simply doesn't have enough assets to make trades that would make a whole lot of sense. That doesn't mean the Lakers couldn't take a chance on a guy like Kuminga, but they probably want to hold assets so they can make a bigger move when a better player becomes available.
