Chelsea## Aston Villa have reportedly made a loan-to-buy approach for Chelsea forward Alejandro Garnacho, who is set to leave Stamford Bridge after just one season following his move from Manchester United

Alejandro Garnacho is not viewed as a direct replacement for Chelsea-bound Morgan Rogers, according to reports. The Blues winger has been made surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge and the Europa League holders have made a loan approach.

The Athletic has reported that the two Premier League clubs are in advanced talks over a temporary switch for the Argentinian forward. The move could see Garnacho join on an initial season-long loan with a conditional obligation to buy as the 22-year-old finds himself at another crossroads in his career.

The forward left Manchester United under a cloud 12 months ago as he forced a move to Chelsea.

However, after a year where he failed to nail a starting berth for the West London club, he finds himself looking for a new club having not returned to pre-season at the beginning of Xabi Alonso's tenure.

Morgan Rogers is poised to complete a record £117million move to Chelsea, delivering Villa a substantial return on their investment following his arrival from Middlesbrough in February 2024.

The funds have already begun to be reinvested into the squad ahead of their Champions League campaign, with Johan Manzambi linking up with Joao Gomes at Villa Park. However, Manzambi's record move from German club SC Freiburg sees him viewed as a replacement for the England international.

Garnacho's future lies away from Stamford Bridge, with Alonso looking at alternative options, resulting in the 22-year-old failing to report back for pre-season.

The winger has attracted considerable attention, with Premier League, European and Saudi Arabian clubs all declaring their interest in securing his signature, as Chelsea look to recoup around £42million from his departure.

Emery is reported to have held a long-standing interest in the Argentine, having attempted to sign him the previous summer. AS Roma are said to be competing in the race to sign Garnacho, but The Athletic's report indicates there is optimism that Emery can be the key to convincing him.

Garnacho found it difficult to settle in the capital, struggling to nail down a regular starting position during a turbulent season for Chelsea.

The Londoners saw Enzo Maresca depart suddenly before his successor, Liam Rosenior, endured a brief stint in permanent charge before being dismissed following a poor run of results.

The 22-year-old managed just 22 starts across all competitions, with 14 coming in the Premier League, where he contributed eight goals.

For Rogers, he is set to complete his record move to Stamford Bridge after undergoing his medical on Monday. The playmaker had only just returned from international duty with England, after their third-place finish at the World Cup, before undergoing tests.
