Alexis Mac Allister’s time at Liverpool is “over” this summer, with the Reds happy to accept offers of £85m for his services during the current window.
The 27-year-old has just suffered defeat in the 2026 World Cup final, falling to Victor Munoz’s Spain on Sunday night, and it’s now time for a rest after a gruelling 12 months.
Mac Allister struggled for Liverpool last season, looking leggy, and conflicting reports have emerged regarding whether he will stay put or not this summer.
According to Spanish journalist Miguel Serrano, in quotes relayed by TEAMtalk, the Reds will part ways with the Argentine before next season starts, with the player himself also wanting a new challenge:
“The latest player to be offered is Alexis Mac Allister. He is under contract with Liverpool until June 2028, and the player believes his time in England is over.
“Liverpool would accept a transfer of €100million (£85m). This wasn’t proposed by his agent, but by the same intermediary who offered Enzo [Fernandez] in February – someone who works with Madrid on Premier League matters.”

This is a tricky situation for Liverpool, considering Mac Allister is an elite midfielder at his best, with former Reds midfielder Joe Cole hailing him back in 2023 after he had moved to Anfield:
“I fell in love with him watching him play for Argentina in the World Cup. I knew he was a good player. We haven’t seen him in any European competitions. When I watched him play for Argentina just take the game by the scruff of the neck, he became a superstar for me. I think that was when Klopp went ‘right, you’ll do’.”
Mac Allister can continue to be an asset for Liverpool if he returns to his best, but there are doubts about that, which is why they may be happy to sell him.
Ultimately, if Andoni Iraola doesn’t think he can be a key player for him, and he wants to join another club, a natural conclusion to his time with the Reds will likely happen.
Ideally, Mac Allister will stay at Liverpool and be as good as he was in his first two seasons, but an £85m offer could be too much to turn down for a player steadily edging towards 30.
