Tuesday’s news brought talks of a ‘significant’ minority investment in Liverpool Football Club, a new signing and the retirement of one of the Premier League‘s longest-serving referees.
Billionaire backing? FSG confirm LFC minority stake interest
Liverpool owners, FSG, have confirmed interest from a consortium of investors led by Amit Bhatia and backed by the Mittal family in a significant minority stake in the club.
According to the Financial Times, Bhatia, the son-in-law of steel tycoon and billionaire Lakshmi Mittal, “is in active talks” over a deal.
FSG’s statement reads: “An investment consortium led, managed and represented by Amit Bhatia has expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club.”

Talks are ongoing, but no agreement has yet been reached, though Bhatia has signalled his intent by transferring his stake in QPR over to majority owner Ruben Gnanalingam to avoid multi-club ownership issues.
If FSG did agree to sell a minority stake in the club, it would provide fresh capital to support Liverpool’s growth, and open up new commercial and sponsorship opportunities across Asia.
If any fans were asking to add more ‘steel’ to the team, this is an interesting way for FSG to go about it… I’ll see myself out!

On this day in 2017, Liverpool made what would later be regarded as one of the biggest bargains in club history, signing Andy Robertson for £8 million from Hull.
At the time, the signing was met with a bit of scepticism as we all desperately sought a long-term solution at left-back, but the Scot would prove to be all we hoped for and more.
He made 378 appearances and helped revolutionise the full-back position with 69 assists on the way to winning two league titles, the Champions League, two League Cups, an FA Cup, Club World Cup and Super Cup.
Robertson earned the adoration of the supporters and was a key member of the dressing room, and now he will be a member of the opposition again after signing for Tottenham.
