Samuel Martinez has officially signed for Liverpool.

Liverpool FC have confirmed the signing of Samuel Martinez from Atletico Nacional.

It was long since reported that the Reds had agreed a fee for the Colombian teenager in the region of £750,000.

Additionally, it’s though that Atletico Nacional retain sell-on clause that ensures they benefit from any future transfer, making it a mutually beneficial arrangement for all parties involved.

Martínez is an attacking midfielder who thrives either in a traditional number 10 role or drifting in from the wing. He flew into England over the weekend with his family and his agent, Daniel Neumuller, to complete the deal.

After passing his medical at the weekend, the 17-year-old has officially been announced by Liverpool.

It was also reported that Bayern Munich wanted to sign the player, but Martinez himself decided to reject the move to the Allianz Arena and instead join Liverpool.

A club statement read:

“Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Samuel Martinez from Atletico Nacional.”

“The 17-year-old attacking midfielder will join the Reds’ Academy ranks ahead of the 2027-28 season, after a move to bring him to the club was completed.”

Martinez does not turn 18 until April 2027, meaning Liverpool will onlt welcome him ahead of the 2027-28 campaign as they state.

The club adds on the midfielder:

“Martinez starred for Colombia as they were winners of the U17 South American Championship in April.”

“He featured in all six of his country’s games at the tournament and registered three assists, including one each in the 3-0 semi-final defeat of Brazil and 4-0 final victory over Argentina.”

This was only Colombia’s second ever U-17 continental title and their first since 1993. The victory ended a 15-tournament streak of titles shared between Argentina and Brazil.

He is expected to represent Colombia again at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Qatar later this year, running from 19 November to 13 December 2026.
