Detroit Pistons senior adviser and former NBA head coach Dwane Casey has emerged as a candidate for the position, according to Marc Stein.
The Rome-based club, recently established by an ownership group featuring former Dallas Mavericks general manager Donnie Nelson and Luka Doncic, is also evaluating several European coaching candidates before making its final decision.
Casey could return to coaching in Europe
Casey has remained with the Pistons as a senior adviser to basketball operations since stepping away from the bench in 2023.
The 69-year-old previously served as head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Toronto Raptors, and Pistons.
His most successful spell came in Toronto, where he became the franchise's all-time winningest coach and led the Raptors to a team-record 59 victories during the 2017-18 campaign.
Casey was named the NBA Coach of the Year following that season.

He also has an existing connection with Nelson after spending three seasons as an assistant coach with the Mavericks.
Casey oversaw Dallas' defense and helped the franchise capture the 2011 NBA championship during Nelson's time in the front office.
Roma preparing for ambitious debut season
BC Roma SPQR were formed after the acquisition of Vanoli Cremona, with the project relocating the club to the Italian capital ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
The ownership group includes Doncic, Nelson, former Lithuanian international Rimantas Kaukenas, and veteran Italian coach Valerio Bianchini.
The club will compete in Italy's Serie A and EuroCup and is positioning itself as a candidate for the planned NBA Europe competition.
