Reiss Nelson is attracting growing interest from clubs across Europe, with Benfica and Valencia both monitoring the Arsenal winger’s situation ahead of the final weeks of the summer transfer window.
The 26-year-old has returned to Arsenal for pre-season after spending last season on loan at Brentford, but his long-term future in north London remains uncertain.
Nelson is entering the final year of his contract at the Emirates Stadium, meaning Arsenal could be prepared to sanction a sale this summer rather than risk losing him on a free transfer next year.
According to BBC journalist Sami Mokbel, the academy graduate is open to moving overseas as he searches for regular first-team football.
Benfica are among the clubs showing the strongest interest.
A move to Lisbon would also reunite Nelson with Marco Silva, who recently took charge of the Portuguese giants after previously managing the winger during their time together at Fulham.
Silva handed Nelson opportunities in west London and is understood to remain an admirer of his qualities.
Valencia are also keeping a close eye on developments as the Spanish club explore attacking reinforcements before the transfer window closes.
Interest has not been limited to the continent.
Several Premier League clubs have also made enquiries over Nelson’s availability, although reports suggest the Arsenal forward is currently prioritising the possibility of a move abroad.
Fulham remain among the English clubs credited with an interest despite Silva’s departure, potentially setting up competition for the winger’s signature if they decide to formalise their pursuit.
Nelson has spent almost his entire career at Arsenal after progressing through the Hale End academy alongside a generation of highly regarded young talents.
He made his senior debut in 2017 and produced several memorable moments in an Arsenal shirt, including his dramatic late winner against Bournemouth during the 2022-23 Premier League campaign.
However, consistent first-team opportunities have proved difficult to secure.
Competition from Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard in recent seasons has limited Nelson’s playing time, while Arsenal’s continued investment in attacking options has further increased competition for places.
A permanent departure could therefore benefit both player and club.
Nelson would have the chance to establish himself as a regular starter elsewhere, while Arsenal could generate a transfer fee for a player whose current contract is due to expire next summer.
For now, the England youth international remains part of Mikel Arteta’s squad for pre-season.
With Benfica and Valencia both monitoring the situation closely, however, the coming weeks could determine whether Nelson’s long association with Arsenal finally comes to an end after nearly two decades at the club.
