According to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne, negotiations between the organization and its starting center are currently at a standstill, with no agreement appearing imminent.
"Could take deep into August," Shelburne said. "Could take quite a while."
Duren remains one of top restricted free agents
Detroit issued Duren a qualifying offer earlier this offseason, officially making the 22-year-old a restricted free agent.
The uncertainty comes after a breakout campaign in which Duren averaged career highs of 19.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 65.0% from the field. However, his playoff performance was uninspiring.
This past season, Duren earned his first NBA All-Star selection and was later named to the All-NBA Third Team.
Despite the lack of progress, Detroit retains control over Duren's immediate future because of his restricted status.
