Chelsea have confirmed the signature of Morgan Rogers on a long-term contract.
The attacker agreed a transfer away from Aston Villa after two and a half years at Villa Park, and he has reportedly moved for a fee of £117 million, the highest transfer fee paid by the Blues for a player.
This nine-figure deal would also be the record transfer fee paid for a British player, trumping the £116 million shelled out by Manchester City for Elliot Anderson earlier in this summer transfer window.
It has been quite a rapid rise for Rogers, who plied his trade in the lower leagues until 2024. A six-month spell at Middlesbrough made the path for a winter window mid-season switch to the Villans, and the attacker earned the trust of Unai Emery to become a regular starter over the next two years.
How Rogers raised his profile
Rogers registered eight goals and 10 assists in his first full Premier League campaign as Villa finished in fifth place, earning the PFA Young Player of the Year Award. He was also named Villa’s Young Player of the Season and became an established England international under Thomas Tuchel.
The 2025/26 season started slowly, but Rogers’ hot streak over the winter would play its part in a year to remember for Villa. His side sealed a top four finish to return to the Champions League, then they ended a 30-year trophy drought with a 3-0 win in the Europa League final against Freiburg.
Rogers recorded the final goal of a historic victory in Istanbul, and he was picked as part of the Team of the Tournament. A place on the plane with England was his reward for his work, and the attacker was part of the Three Lions group that achieved the nation’s best World Cup finish since 1966.

Set to start life at Stamford Bridge just days before his 24th birthday, the future is looking good for Rogers, and his signature should brighten the mood for the Blues too. This record-breaking deal that undercut the plans of Premier League champions Arsenal is one for the bragging rights, and the fans of the club are crying out for talent to take the team back to the levels seen before the BlueCo era.
The four-season cycle with Enzo Fernandez is a cautionary tale to those of a blue persuasion. But if Rogers can kick on from the impact he made in the Midlands, the fee will be far easier to accept.
