And it appears that talks have been broached to potentially bring Bezos into a potential ownership group for Liverpool Football Club.
Earlier today, news broke that former Queens Park Rangers owner Amit Bhatia is in talks to buy a significant minority stake in Liverpool.
Bhatia, who also it was also confirmed today had quit as owner and director of QPR, had approached The Reds about the stake and was already bringing in Indian steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal as part of his bid for the club,
And now it appears that there are more heavy hitters that he intends to bring along the way.
Sky News report that Amit Bhatia has held discussions with Jeff Bezos to join the consortium that’s in talks to buy the stake in Liverpool Football Club.
The television broadcaster explains that while discussions took place, currently the Amazon CEO is not certain to proceed with investment into the club.
Current owners Fenway Sports Group, similar to Jeff Bezos, are also USA based and it would not be a surprise to see more American money come into English football from the States – with a number of English Premier League clubs already having American owners or investors.
In the report, it’s claimed that the investment group is looking to buy up to 30% from FSG – which would be a significant percentage of the club.
A spokesperson for the consortium led by Amit Bhatia declined to comment on Mr Bezos’s prospective investment, while a spokesman for Mr Bezos has been contacted by Sky for comment.
With talks being reported in mainstream news publications outside of the typical sports pages, expect more details and developments to emerge over the coming days.
