The latest Premier League transfer news as Man United, Arsenal, Aston Villa and more chase new players
We’re less than a month away from the 2026/27 Premier League season getting underway, and clubs are soon to embark upon their pre-season tours with the dust barely settled on the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Those who went deep with their nations in the tournament will have a little more time off, however, while their teammates will be ushered back into club duties rather more swiftly.
Off the field, the summer transfer window has burst into life, with a series of high profile deals going through in the past week or so. Manchester United have nearly completed their midfield revamp, Chelsea and Manchester City have both signed a player for over £100m, and Tottenham have spent around £237m on signing three players, with three more arriving on free transfers.
Today’s rumours round-up begins at Villa Park, where Aston Villa are presumably fanning themselves with the huge wads of cash that Chelsea handed over to sign £117m man Morgan Rogers. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has now posted on social media to reveal that Villa have made an official bid for Blues winger Alejandro Garnacho.
It’s said that the offer is for a loan deal with a “buy clause”, but it’s not specified whether this is an obligation to buy at the end of the deal, or whether it is merely an option. The player’s entourage are said to be in talks with Villa, which suggests it could be a permanent move, perhaps dependent on certain criteria being met, i.e., appearances made. Villans boss Unai Emery is said to have personally approved the move, as he looks to shake up his attacking options.
The 3AM Verdict: Garnacho to Chelsea was an odd move at the time, with the Blues spending £40m to sign him last August. He had a deeply underwhelming first season at the club, continually frustrating fans with his inconsistent performances. Whether Emery can be the one to finally unlock the player’s potential remains to be seen. If so, it could be a good deal for both parties.
Arsenal could get Alvarez breakthrough

Next up, Arsenal are looking to bounce back after missing out on Morgan Rogers, and a report from Caught Offside suggests they could be in luck. The story claims that Atletico Madrid have told their forward Julian Alvarez that they could be open to sanctioning his exit this summer, if he moves to an English side rather than one of their La Liga rivals.
Barcelona and Real Madrid have both been linked with the ex-Man City gem, but Atleti have been publicly adamant that they won’t sell him to them. However, it’s claimed that the player still wishes to join Barcelona, and that a whopping fee of around £170m may be required to get the deal done. That said, the door could now be ajar for Arsenal to burst in.
The 3AM Verdict: Arsenal would be out of their minds to spend that kind of money on Alvarez, but if they can both convince the player to join and the club to reduce their demands, they could seal the signing of the window. With PSG likely to make Yan Diomande their marquee signing this window, the path just might open up for the Gunners after all.
Berge could complete Man United revamp

Last up, it’s over to Old Trafford, where Manchester United are looking to bag the final part of their midfield revamp. Scores of players have been linked with the club in recent weeks, and now a fresh report from Team Talk suggests Fulham’s Sander Berge could be their man. The story suggests that Brighton’s Carlos Baleba and Bournemouth Alex Scott will be too expensive, with the latter valued at around £80m.
Berge will, apparently, be let go for less than £40m, which would give United the financial ability to strengthen in other areas too, such as the left-back position. The Norway international is said to now be a “serious target” for the Red Devils, with the player’s extensive top flight experience said to appeal to the club’s recruitment team.
The 3AM Verdict: Signing Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans wasn’t bad business from United, butSpurs’ acquisition of Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali, two Red Devils targets, rather overshadowed their efforts. Berge would be another rather underwhelming signing, but in fairness, he’s a reliable operator who could slot nicely into the new-look midfield despite not being a big-name player.
