On Tuesday, Chelsea announced the signing of Morgan Rogers from Premier League rivals Aston Villa.
The Blues had to break the bank to bring the attacking midfielder to Stamford Bridge, paying a club-record £117m fee for his signature.
Nevertheless, Xabi Alonso will be delighted with the addition of Rogers to his squad. Rogers is set to play on the left-hand side for Chelsea, but the 23-year-old is also capable of playing behind the striker or on the right.
Rogers’ versatility is not the only reason why Alonso will be happy about his arrival, though. His new signing is also quite an efficient attacker.

As per FotMob, Rogers scored 10 goals from an xG of just 6.78 in the Premier League last season. It shows that the Englishman converted some very difficult chances.
Rogers is a long-shot specialist, so the xG value of some of the goals he scored in the previous campaign were quite low. To outperform his xG by 3.22 is a very good sign if you are a Chelsea fan.
It was also a similar theme when it came to assists. Rogers’ xA was 4.30, but he was actually able to set up six goals in total for Villa.

The wide players Chelsea had for the 2025/26 season were not as productive as Rogers. For example, Pedro Neto played a similar number of games as his new teammate but only managed to score five goals.
Alejandro Garnacho only netted once and has now been replaced by Rogers. He could be the man to succeed the England international at Villa Park, with the Villans interested in signing him.

Chelsea almost bought Rogers a year ago, but they settled on Garnacho and Jamie Gittens in the end.
They have finally got their hands on the former Villa man, and hopefully he can continue to be efficient at Stamford Bridge.
