A consortium spearheaded by a British-Indian millionaire businessman has reportedly expressed an interest in acquiring a minority stake in Liverpool FC.

A report from the BBC said the move is led by Amit Bhatia, the son-in-law of Indian billionaire Lakshmi Mittal. Bhatia was director and co-owner of QPR for 18 seasons but stepped down and relinquished ownership on Tuesday (21 July 2026).

In a statement obtained by the BBC, Liverpool owner Fenway Sports Group said: "An investment consortium led, managed, and represented by Amit Bhatia has expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club."

It is understood that the deal has not yet been finalised with FSG.

If it moves forward, the investment would follow a similar structure to when, in 2023, FSG sold a minority stake in the club to sports investment firm Dynasty.

According to the Financial Times, a deal with the consortium would value the Premier League giant at about £4.5bn.
