'Unless...' - Journalist shares verdict on Arsenal signing Bradley Barcola

Arsenal may be unwilling to meet Paris Saint-Germain's excessive asking price for Bradley Barcola this summer, based on their failed pursuit of Morgan Rogers, according to reputable journalist Tom Canton.

Barcola enjoyed another productive campaign for the Parisians last season, scoring 13 goals and providing eight assists across all competitions. However, the Frenchman still found himself somewhat on the periphery of Luis Enrique's squad, with the Spaniard favouring the likes of Desire Doue, Ousmane Dembele and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

PSG are now said to be targeting RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande, which would push Barcola further down the pecking order at the Parc des Princes, fuelling speculation that the 23-year-old could leave in this window.

Arsenal have been cited as potential suitors for Barcola, although the Ligue 1 champions' supposed price demands could present a stumbling block for the deal.

Arsenal's interest in Morgan Rogers was well documented, with many sources reporting that the Aston Villa man was the Gunners' primary target this summer.

However, Andrea Berta wasn't willing to meet Villa's £117million valuation, while Chelsea were, and the England international is now subsequently Stamford Bridge-bound.

PSG are said to be looking for a similar fee for Barcola, which could ultimately deter the Gunners from making a move.

Arsenal journalist Tom Canton has revealed on football.london that he could see a similar scenario to the Rogers saga playing out in the pursuit of the highly-touted France international.

"Because while some fans might have preferred a move for Bradley Barcola, for example, football.london understands that Arsenal had a valuation of around £80million for Rogers," he explained.

"The PSG man's price is far above that, so can we realistically expect the Gunners to pay £117million-plus for Barcola? Probably not. Unless something changes."

There is a shortage of top-class left-wingers available on the market this summer, yet Arsenal undoubtedly need one. For this reason, while the Gunners were right to hold firm on the Rogers front, they cannot afford to be as stingy over Barcola.

If the North London outfit don't land Barcola, they'll be forced to turn to slightly less inspiring options. Nico Williams has been linked, but the Athletic Club star's measly six-goal return last season means his signing wouldn't exactly get the pulses racing for Arsenal fans.

If PSG demand in and around the £100million mark for Barcola, then the Gunners should be prepared to break the bank for him, even if it means they'll be paying slightly over the odds. The market is inflated at the moment, and Berta will at some point need to accept that he doesn't have a choice if he wants to strengthen Mikel Arteta's squad.
