Alisson is set to rebuff any advances from Saudi Arabia to stay at Liverpool this summer, with Andoni Iraola “very happy” with the goalkeeping options he has.

After the breakdown of a potential move to Juventus earlier in the summer, Alisson has been subject of renewed interest from the Saudi Pro League.

But sources close to the Brazilian have dismissed suggestions he could leave Liverpool, with winwin‘s Ismael Mahmoud reporting that “the door is completely closed.”

“We are not talking or negotiating with any club at the moment,” the source – almost certainly his agent Ze Maria Ness, who has previously spoken to winwin – said.

“Alisson is happy at Liverpool, and Liverpool also wants to rely on him and wants him to stay.”

Liverpool triggered a clause in Alisson‘s contract to extend it to 2027, by which point he will be 34 and have spent nine seasons at Anfield.

He has already cemented himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the club’s history – ranked No. 16 in Liverpool’s all-time greatest players list, behind only Ray Clemence in No. 13.

And though injuries have seen his influence wane in recent years, Alisson remains undisputed No. 1 while doubts linger over Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Mamardashvili produced a hit-and-miss debut campaign at Liverpool last time out, with the Georgian proving an accomplished shot-stopper but with concerns over how he suits the style of play, particularly in distribution.

But speaking in his first press conference of the USA tour on Tuesday, Iraola expressed his delight at working with the current goalkeeping group.

“I’m very happy with the situation we have right now in the goalkeeping area,” he told reporters in Chicago.

“We have Alisson, we have Giorgi. Freddie played some games [in the] past season. I think it’s a guarantee for us.”

The new head coach also explained the importance of retaining Alisson as one of the leaders in Liverpool’s dressing room at a time of significant change as Mo Salah and Andy Robertson depart.

“Alisson is someone [we can rely on] also in a changing room that has lost some references in terms of experience,” Iraola continued.

“I think he’s someone that definitely will help us in this process of adaptation of the new signings, of the new players, the young players.

“We need the references like Virgil, like Alisson, like Joe Gomez, players that have been here for a long time. And I’m sure we will have this help, yes.”

Iraola has confirmed that Alisson will not join the Liverpool squad in the United States and will instead begin training at the AXA Training Centre next week alongside Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo.
