Fabio Vieira
Hamburg SV chief financial offer and board member Eric Huwer has said his club have made an offer for Arsenal‘s Fábio Vieira.
Mikel Arteta didn’t give the midfielder regular minutes after he arrived from FC Porto in 2022.
Arsenal sent him back to Porto, on a loan in 2024, before sanctioning another loan to the HSV last summer.
The Portuguese midfielder managed seven goals and six assists from 31 matches for Hamburg and his performances convinced them to make his stay permanent.
On July 2nd, Hamburg sporting director Kathleen Krüger talked about the need of finding creative solutions to bring him back.
Arsenal standing firm
Earlier this month, Sport Witness covered claims from Germany that Arsenal are refusing to sell Fábio Vieira for less than €20m, while Hamburg SV are unwilling to offer over €10m.
On Tuesday, Eric Huwer and Kathleen Krüger interacted with around 80 fans. Hamburger Morgenpost have relayed their comments on a few topics, including the Gunners man.
Huwer confirmed making an offer to both the player and Arsenal, without mentioning the details.
“Fábio is a fantastic player, and we feel like we’re fighting for him every single day. We’ve also backed up our interest with Arsenal with financial figures; the situation is well-known. But right now, no one’s flinching,” he said.
“We’re confident we can make Fábio a very competitive offer within our means, without taking on any debt.”
Arsenal decision key
The CFO said the Bundesliga side are ready to move on if Arsenal or Fábio Vieira reject their offer.
“We’re naturally very curious to see whether he and Arsenal will accept it,” Huwer explained.
“We fell a little bit in love with Fábio last year, but we’re not going to be unreasonable. If Arsenal says yes, we’ll be happy to have Fábio; if they say no, we’ll be happy to have someone else.”
Vieira’s contract expires in 2027, and Transfermarkt value him at €18m. The Gunners are naturally under pressure to sell given the contract situation.
