The transfer window is indeed ongoing even if for many Arsenal supporters it might feel like it is passing many of them by. Frustration has grown early despite nearly £70million already being committed in the market on three players, but that is the nature of footballing opinions.
The big deals, however, are not going as planned so far, with Chelsea’s swoop for Morgan Rogers for £117million shocking the fan base. Then there is Bruno Guimaraes and the chaos around his potential switch to North London.
With so much transfer chat ongoing, it felt like the time for a Q&A session with our chief Arsenal correspondent, Tom Canton. Here are some of the highlights.

Question: Do Arsenal have to sell before they buy this summer? It appears the club have several players they are willing to let go... Any progress on those exits?
Tom Canton: Not from a financial perspective but space wise there is some pressure. Currently, including the incoming Tzolis, Arsenal have two more non-homegrown slots of the 17 available for new signings. But imagine Bruno Guimaraes, Julian Alvarez and one or two more, hypothetically came in, all non-homegrown, that would need some movement.
Gabriel Jesus and Fabio Vieira leaving would then help with that, but so far not much is happening. These are the types of deals that tend to happen later in the window when clubs start moving down their lists of alternatives.
Reiss Nelson also expected to go. Ben White, however, is likelier to stay after William Saliba's injury.
Question: What is the latest on Christos Tzolis?
Tom Canton: Christos Tzolis is expected to sign for Arsenal this week for £34million. The deal agreed with Club Brugge last week for the Greek international isn't grabbing the headlines, but the player has plenty of talent with 51 goal contributions last season.
Question: While it might not be an ideal alternative, what would you say to Berta & Co. investing in another one or two younger wingers, keeping Martinelli, and seeing how the roster develops over the next 2-3 years? It isn't in line with our dynasty ambitions, but given the conundrum of the club not wanting to go over valuations, it seems like some kind of alternative...
Tom Canton: It's a really good question. If you cannot upgrade, can you sign a player who is perhaps good for the now, without being a big step up, but looks like they could be a big upgrade if they develop as expected in the future?

Arsenal are interested in Mika Godts and Kerim Alajbegovic, and both of these players fit the bill of what you're suggesting. That being said, going into a title defence with an arguably initially weaker pair of left wingers compared to last season would not necessarily be the best look for the club.
