It’s been a whirlwind few weeks for Liverpool FC Women on the transfer front, with the club’s business heating up ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
The Reds recently completed the signing of Japanese forward Mao Itamura from Feyenoord, with the 19-year-old arriving fresh off winning the Women’s Eredivisie Player of the Year award after producing eight goals and six assists last season.

Earlier this month, Denise O’Sullivan headed in the opposite direction, joining Gotham FC in the USA on an initial one-year loan with an obligation to make the move permanent, following 13 appearances and two goals for the Reds since her January arrival.
Liverpool had already been busy earlier in the window too, agreeing a deal for German international Vivien Endemann from Wolfsburg, who officially arrived on Merseyside on July 1.
Between incomings and outgoings, it’s fair to say Liverpool’s women’s side have had one of the busiest windows in the WSL this summer.
Now, another departure looks to be on the cards. Newcastle United are reportedly in advanced talks to sign Republic of Ireland forward Leanne Kiernan from Liverpool, according to the BBC.
Kiernan, 27, has been a Liverpool player for five years and put pen to paper on a new contract as recently as 2025, meaning she still has over a year left on her current deal.
That means Newcastle, who compete in the WSL’s second tier, would likely have to stump up a transfer fee to get the move over the line. The Irish international spent the second half of last season out on loan at Nottingham Forest, having found her opportunities limited on Merseyside.
During her time at Anfield, Kiernan has racked up 23 goals in 76 appearances, and she was the top scorer with 14 goals during Liverpool’s title-winning 2022 WSL 2 campaign.
It remains to be seen if Kieran would want to make the step down to the second division on a permanent basis.
