Former Middlesbrough star Morgan Rogers has completed a big money move from Aston Villa to Premier League rivals Chelsea.
Middlesbrough have secured a major financial boost after former star Morgan Rogers left Aston Villa to complete a big money move to Premier League rivals Chelsea.
The 22-times capped England international joined Boro from Manchester City during the summer of 2023 and went on to score seven goals and provide nine assists in 33 appearances during what would become a 19-month spell at the Riverside Stadium. That earned Rogers an £8m move to Villa and he has made remarkable progress for club and country after working under Unai Emery over the last two years. The 23-year-old has become a regular in the England ranks and was part of the Three Lions squad that secured a third place finish at this summer’s World Cup finals - and his form for club and country has now landed Rogers a big money move to Chelsea after he reportedly snubbed interest from Premier League champions Arsenal to complete a club record switch to Stamford Bridge.

Speaking after putting pen-to-paper on an initial six-year deal, the former Boro star told the Blues website: “I’m so excited. For me, Chelsea are the biggest club in London and a club I’ve always admired since I was a kid. I’m really excited about the project with the new manager, the players we’ve got and where the club is heading. That’s why I’m here and I can’t wait to get started.”
The move has also helped Boro land a major financial boost as they look to continue strengthening their squad ahead of what they hope will be a successful push for a long-awaited return to the Premier League. Boro shrewdly inserted a sell-on clause in the £8m deal that took Rogers to Aston Villa that enabled them to claim 20 percent of any profit Villa earned from a future sale. That means the Boro coffers will be swelled by around £20.5m after their former star formally completed a £117m move to Chelsea on Tuesday and that is believed to represent a new British record for a sum of money received from a sell-on fee.
