Better than Rogers: Arsenal open talks to sign 'absolutely frightening' forward [view]

Arsenal are in the market for a new forward after missing out on Morgan Rogers. They've now opened fresh talks to sign a player who could be an upgrade on the new Chelsea man.

The Gunners are prioritising a move to sign a new forward over the coming weeks, and that's been heightened after Leandro Trossard completed a move to Besiktas.

Arsenal were pushing to sign Rogers from Aston Villa, but Chelsea made a last-minute swoop to secure his signature ahead of the North London club.

It's back to the drawing board for Arsenal, as it's clear they need to add a versatile forward to their attack.

Signing a left winger could be their priority, and that may be where they were planning on utilising Rogers if he made the move to the club.

According to reports, Arsenal have opened fresh talks to sign Athletic Club winger Nico Williams after failing to get a deal for Rogers over the line, with the Spain international regarded as a serious option.

It was a bit of a blow for Arsenal to miss out on signing Rogers this summer, but things could work out for the better if they secure a deal for Williams.

The Spanish star is more of a natural left winger than Rogers, which is the position that Arsenal desperately need to strengthen.

You could argue Williams has a higher ceiling than Rogers too, while he would also cost significantly less.

Williams is believed to have a release clause in the region of £77 million in his contract, a lot less than the £117 million that Chelsea paid for Rogers.

Williams perfect for Arsenal

Williams, who has been described as 'absolutely frightening', could be the absolutely perfect signing that Arsenal need in the summer transfer window.

After building a squad capable of reaching the Champions League final and winning the Premier League, it's clear that Arsenal don't need a host of new additions in the summer market.

It's allowed them to remain patient with their business, not looking to overpay or panic buy.

The Gunners don't need to strengthen in all areas of the pitch, as their squad is already strong enough, so focusing on individual positions could be their aim.

There's no doubt they need to bring in a left winger, and Williams could be absolutely perfect for that role and an attainable target due to his release clause.
