'A special player' - Guardiola breaks down why Foden means so much to Man City and fans

The England international joined City's under-nines side and rose through the ranks to break into the first team as a 17-year-old.
He has since won six Premier League titles, one Champions League and three FA Cups with the Manchester side.
Foden's previous deal had been set to expire in 2027.
The 25-year-old featured in England's November World Cup qualifiers and March friendlies, but was not selected for this summer's FIFA World Cup.
The new deal keeps him with Manchester City until 2030.
Foden was a regular under Pep Guardiola, picking up 20 major honours with the club. As well as those six Premier League titles, he has five League Cups, three Community Shields and a UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.
Manchester City finished second in the Premier League last season, seven points behind Arsenal.
”Committing my future to [Manchester] City means everything to me,” Foden said in a statement.
”Playing for this club is all I’ve ever wanted to do and it’s always an honour to wear the shirt.
”It’s not lost on me that I’ve been lucky enough to be part of a historic period with so many titles won, but we’re always looking to the future and trying to win more.

”I can only thank the club, staff, team-mates and fans who continue to put their faith in me and trust that I give everything I can for City and I hope I’ll be able to repay you for years to come.

”Personally, I know I’ve improved so much from working with our coaches and world-class squad and as many of the legends who were here when I first broke through move on, I am excited for the next phase of my career at this great club.”
Foden has previously worked with Enzo Maresca when the latter was Guardiola’s assistant in 2022/23. The Englishman putting pen to paper ensures more continuity for Maresca, who has the tough job of following in Guardiola's footsteps.

”Given Phil joined City at the age of nine, his continued success is one that is celebrated in every corner of our Club from the Academy staff who helped develop him right through to the City fans who have backed him throughout.
