According to ESPN's Shams Charania, San Antonio Spurs young superstar Victor Wembanyama will grace the cover of NBA 2K27, continuing his rapid rise as one of the biggest faces in basketball.
The news first leaked on social media back in early June during the NBA Finals.
It marks another year in which a non-American player has been selected as the game’s cover athlete. Last year, Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was featured on the cover, while NBA 2K22 had then-Dallas Mavericks star and current Los Angeles Lakers forward Luka Doncic as its cover athlete.
Wembanyama has quickly established himself as one of the most productive players in the league. In his first postseason appearance, he has averaged 23.2 points, 10.8 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game while shooting 51.0 percent from the field.
His impact grew even more in the Western Conference Finals, where he took over the series against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Across seven games, Wembanyama averaged 27.3 points, 10.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.4 steals and 2.7 blocks per game, earning unanimous Western Conference Finals MVP honors.
In the decisive Game 7, he delivered once again, finishing with 22 points and 7 rebounds to help close out the series and send the Spurs to the NBA Finals.
