Viktor Gyokeres could be on the move from Arsenal just 12 months after joining the Premier League champions, it has been claimed.
The former Coventry City star has been suggested as a potential makeweight amid the Gunners’ interest in Julian Alvarez. Mikel Arteta’s side are reported to be among the clubs interested in the Argentina striker, who has made it clear he wants to quit Atletico Madrid.
Real Madrid and Barcelona are said to be interested in the prolific frontman but Atletico are reluctant to do business with their La Liga rivals, claims The Mirror, meaning a move to the Premier League cannot be ruled out.
English interest is led by Arsenal, just a year after they finally landed Gyokeres following a drawn-out transfer saga with Sporting CP. The 28-year-old enjoyed a glittering two season in Portugal to earn a move back to England, having initially made his name with the Sky Blues who sold him for around £20m in 2023.
The Swede helped Arsenal to the title with 14 league goals, a respectable but not prolific return. Gyokeres had his detractors for his alleged lack of influence outside the penalty area, prompting some to wonder whether he should be the Gunners’ first-choice number nine long term.
According to talkSPORT, Arsenal have considered offering Gyokeres as part of a swap deal to land Alvarez.
Should such a deal go ahead it would mean Gyokeres wouldn’t face his former club on the opening day of the season when Frank Lampard’s men kick-off their return to top flight football at the Emirates Stadium.
