Victor Wembanyama is enjoying the peak of his career right now. After leading the San Antonio Spurs to a 62-20 record and a trip to the NBA Finals in his third season, Wemby turned into the league's most fan-favorite player, and now he's landed a spot on the game's biggest stage off the court.
The 7-foot-4 Spurs forward capped off a solid playoff run by winning the Western Conference Finals MVP award unanimously. He put up 22 points and seven rebounds in a Game 7 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder, sending San Antonio to its first Finals since 2014.
He also made history earlier in the year as the first-ever unanimous Defensive Player of the Year, while finishing third in the regular-season MVP race. Although the Spurs lost 4-1 to the New York Knicks in the Finals, the series was much closer than the record shows.
Three of those four losses came down to the final minute, with New York barely holding on to win late. That level of two-way dominance made him the obvious pick for the next cover of the 2K franchise.
ESPN's Shams Charania reported, "San Antonio's Victor Wembanyama is the NBA 2K27 cover athlete, per sources." The news confirms June leaks and places the French star alongside previous cover stars Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Luka Doncic.

The selection links Wemby to an elite lineage of stars who have fronted the series since 1999. Allen Iverson served as the game's sole cover athlete for its first five years, before icons like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and LeBron James took over.
The cover marks another milestone for the 22-year-old. He recently agreed to a five-year, $252 million max rookie-scale extension with the San Antonio Spurs. Rather than triggering the 30% supermax tier worth $303 million, this contract represents a base 25% cap maximum, which includes a player option in the fifth year.
Fans can play with his game character when NBA 2K27 launches worldwide on Sep. 4, with early access starting August 28.
