The [Boston Red Sox](https://nesn.com/boston-red-sox) are trying to break the franchise's record, set in 1946, for longest winning streak.
This year's club has won 14 in a row entering Wednesday, when they play a doubleheader with the Baltimore Orioles. Those 1946 Red Sox won 15 in a row.
It's a good excuse to look back at the longest winning streaks put together by each of Boston's other three powerhouse sports teams.
The Boston Celtics, Boston Bruins and New England Patriots have also had quite impressive winning stretches.

Celtics' longest winning streak
-------------------------------
The Boston Celtics won 19 games in a row early in the 2008-09 NBA season, one of the highlights of the Big Three era led by Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen.
The Celtics also have an 18-game winning streak in their history, which came during the 1981-82 season.
Patriots' longest winning streak
--------------------------------
Counting games in the playoffs, the Patriots won 21 consecutive games between Oct. 2003 and Oct. 2004. That included Super Bowl XXXVIII and then a 6-0 start to the 2004 season.
If going for a streak compiled in a single season, the Patriots had their 16-0 season that they could only top now by going 17-0 in the longer regular season.
Bruins' longest winning streak
------------------------------
The Bruins won 14 games in a row way back in the 1929-30 regular season.
They also had a 13-game streak in early 1971.
