July 22 – Liverpool owner Fenway Sports Group (FSG) is in talks to sell a 30% stake in the club to a consortium led by British-Indian millionaire Amit Bhatia consortium for a reported £1.35 billion.
Liverpool is valued at about £4.6 billion. Talks are believed to have been on-going for three months.
Bhatia is the son-in-law of Lakshimi Mittal, the principal of steel and mining company ArcelorMittal, whose net worth has been valued at £23.2 billion.
On Tuesday, Bhatia announced he was stepping down from the board of Championship club Queens Park Rangers and transferring his shares to majority owner Ruben Gnanalingam.
Unlike a number of previous offers for the club, FSG confirmed that they had received an approach saying: “An investment consortium led, managed, and represented by Amit Bhatia has expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club.”
In 2025 FSG agreed a 3% share sale to US investment firm Dynasty Equity for about £150million.
FSG, which also owns baseball’s Boston Red Sox, bought Liverpool in 2010 for £300 million. FSG also owns a stake in the commercial arm of golf’s PGA Tour and NASCAR’s RFK Racing. Last year, it sold NHL franchise the Pittsburgh Penguins for £1.3 billion.
