Liverpool make enquiry for Maghnes Akliouche

Maghnes Akliouche has reportedly been approached by Liverpool.

Sky Sports Lyall Thomas has reported that Monaco winger and PSG target has received an enquiry from Liverpool.

PSG have been attempting to sign the French international this summer, having had three bids rejected by their Ligue 1 rivals this window.

The 24-year-old has reportedly already agreed personal terms with the European champions. However, the Reds firming up their interest could mean his head is turned at the prospect of playing in a bigger role at Anfield.

The winger will have to break into a two-time winning Champions League squad that already boasts the likes of Ousmane Dembele, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Desire Doue, and Bradley Barcola among their forward options.

Under Andoni Iraola, there will surely be more opportunities.

Sky Sports revealed that PSG have failed in their most recent bid of around £34m as they confirm the Liverpool enquiry:

“Liverpool have made an initial approach to Monaco for winger Maghnes Akliouche.”

“The club are understood to have checked on the potential availability of the 24-year-old France international.”

“Akliouche is a prime target for Paris Saint-Germain, who have made several offers for him but none of which have been acceptable to Monaco so far.”

“The most recent is believed to be in the region of £34m (€40m).”

Akliouche is contracted to Monaco until 2028, suggesting that his club is aware this is the last summer they can get a meaningful fee for him.

With the amount of interest shown in the player it would be hard to see Akliouche opt to extend his stay at the principality club.

Earlier this month, Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro spoke about the interest in the French international and other players, saying that a fair agreement would have to be reached to sanction a sale:

“It’s normal to have other clubs interested in players like Balogun, Akliouche, and Lamine (Camara).”

“If we can reach a fair agreement for Monaco, we can have an agreement tomorrow. If we can’t reach a fair agreement, we won’t have an agreement,” Scuro explained.

“These are players we have a lot of faith in. For the players, we need to find the right conditions for Monaco; now is the time to have discussions, we have them every day.”

Meanwhile, Andoni Iraola confirmed in his first press conference while on the USA tour that the club “needs to sign” another winger.
