Birmingham City have confirmed that tickets for their showpiece pre-season friendly against European giants FC Barcelona have sold out.
Blues opened every block of St. Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park – including the section usually cordoned off for segregation – to ensure that as many supporters as possible had the chance to watch their side lock horns with the Spanish champions.
Five-time Champions League winners Barcelona are due in England for a training camp at St George’s Park as part of their pre-season under head coach Hansi Flick and agreed to visit the Second City on Friday, July 31 for a 7:45pm kick-off.
Bringing Barcelona to Birmingham represents another statement of intent from Blues and the game will rekindle a unique piece of football history between the two clubs. In 1960, Blues became the first English side to play in a European final when they faced Barcelona in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup.
Blues’ Chief Executive Officer Jeremy Dale said of the friendly: “We are thrilled to welcome FC Barcelona to St. Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park for what promises to be a memorable occasion for our players, supporters and the city of Birmingham.
“This fixture reflects the ambition of Birmingham City and the progress being made across the Club. The footballing world is paying attention to what is happening at Birmingham City.
“Barcelona are a powerhouse of world football and have chosen to kick-off their pre-season campaign with us. People are seeing that there is an exciting story unfolding here. Hosting one of the most iconic teams in the world, with such a rich history and global following, is a fantastic opportunity as we build towards the new season.

A short statement from the club regarding tickets read: “Tickets for Birmingham City’s prestigious pre-season friendly against FC Barcelona have now sold out.
“Thank you to those supporters who have purchased a ticket for what promises to be an unforgettable night at St. Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park on Friday 31 July.”
