Arsenal transfer news## Arsenal have been active in looking for a new left wing upgrade with RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande one player they have considered

Arsenal made an enquiry for RB Leipzig forward Yan Diomande, sources have told football.london.

Mikel Arteta's side are one of a number of clubs that have wanted to be kept informed of the conditions surrounding the Ivorian international.

The Gunners have been knocked back in the market for new wide players after losing out on Morgan Rogers to Chelsea for £117million. Rogers joined the West London club despite a protracted chase by Arsenal, who fell well short of the asking price and are understood to have valued the England international at around £80million.

Sporting director Andrea Berta has therefore moved on to alternatives with Bradley Barcola, Mika Godts and Kerim Alajbegovic all having been scouted by the club. Diomande has been the subject of interest from several clubs, with Liverpool seeing their approach to pay a fee in the region of £85million knocked back.

The player is believed to favour a move to Paris Saint-Germain, but the French club has so far not met the asking price, believed to be approximately £94million. Arsenal’s enquiry is believed to have been purely exploratory at the time and the club have not advanced from there so far during the transfer window.

The 19-year-old scored 12 goals and earned nine assists in the Bundesliga last season, helping Leipzig finish third and qualify for the UEFA Champions League, strengthening their position financially. Arsenal were unable to broker a deal with the German club last summer for Benjamin Sesko and were unwilling to meet the £73.7million asking price eventually paid by Manchester United.

Berta pivoted to Viktor Gyokeres, who scored 14 goals and became the club’s top scorer as they won the Premier League title. There is a strong desire to upgrade on the left flank after the departure of Leandro Trossard.

However, they will not be drawn into overpaying well beyond their valuation of players and will look elsewhere instead of compromising their position on a target. Christos Tzolis is set to arrive after Arsenal and Club Brugge agreed a £34million deal, representing yet another shrewd signing for the now-champions.
