From Brazil: What’s happening on Savinho to Tottenham from Manchester City

Tottenham’s chase for Manchester City winger Savinho has hit its first real obstacle.

After weeks of increasingly positive reports from Brazil, Globo Esporte now claim negotiations between Spurs and City have stalled, with the two clubs yet to bridge the gap over a transfer fee.

That does not mean the deal is off. According to the report, Tottenham remain interested in signing the Brazilian winger and continue to monitor the situation, but talks have cooled after what had initially looked like a promising start to negotiations.

Early momentum fades

Over recent weeks, the signs had all pointed in one direction. Tottenham opened talks with Manchester City, Savinho was reported to have chosen North London as his preferred destination and discussions even progressed to meetings involving City executives.

Now, however, Globo Esporte report there has been little movement. The biggest obstacle is the difference between the two clubs’ valuations, which has prevented negotiations from moving towards an agreement.

Despite that, Spurs have not abandoned the operation. Instead, they are waiting to see whether the conditions of the deal become more favourable before making another push.

Savinho back with Manchester City

With negotiations slowing down, Savinho has returned normally to Manchester City for pre-season.

The Brazilian reported back on Monday alongside the rest of Enzo Maresca’s squad and is taking part in preparations for the 2026/27 campaign while his future remains unresolved.

That does not necessarily weaken Tottenham’s chances. Globo Esporte say the London club remain in contact and could revive negotiations if circumstances change.

Savinho is still viewed as a player capable of adding pace and creativity out wide, while the search for more regular minutes also remains an important factor in any decision over his future after a season in which he struggled for consistent opportunities at City.

For now, though, this transfer saga has reached something it had not experienced before… A pause.
