Liverpool could have its sights set on hijacking Paris Saint-Germain’s attempts to sign a new forward as the Reds’ search for a new winger takes another twist.
A replacement for Mohamed Salah is still being sought, with Liverpool’s attempts to sign Yan Diomande earlier this summer having fallen flat after the RB Leipzig teenager decided upon a move to PSG instead.
Alternative options have been drawn up, with Bradley Barcola the most prominent name being linked, although the 23-year-old has his own complications, with PSG seemingly not entertaining interest in him right now, while it may take a a huge offer to convince the club on selling him in any case.
With that in mind, Liverpool may have now turned its attention to another option which could see it locked in yet another battle with the European champions.
According to Sky Sports, Liverpool has made an initial approach to Monaco for Maghnes Akliouche. It's claimed that the Reds have checked on the availability of the 24-year-old forward, who is a prime target for PSG, although the Liverpool Echo has indicated that approach was made earlier in the summer, and nothing has developed since then.
The French champions are said to have made several offers, none of which have been accepted by Monaco. The most recent is claimed to have been in the region of $46M (€40M).
The news comes after Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola admitted the club needs to find a new right-winger before the start of the new season, which is now a little over a month away from starting with a trip to Newcastle on August 23.
Who is Maghnes Akliouche?
A versatile forward who is also capable of playing in an attacking midfield role, Liverpool will be most interested in Akliouche as a winger. He would fit into the Salah mold, given he is left-footed, and at 24, he is just approaching his peak years as a player.
Akliouche has spent his entire professional career at Monaco so far, having previously been a youth player at Villemomble and Torcy.

Having made his professional debut in 2021, Akliouche has started to grow in importance at Monaco over the past few seasons. Of the 139 appearances he’s made for the club, 117 have come in the last three campaigns, a period which has brought about 22 goals and 27 assists.
Akliouche has earned 10 caps for France, all of which have come in the last year, and he was part of Didier Deschamps’ squad for this summer’s World Cup, although he would only make one cameo appearance at the tournament during the group stages against Iraq.
Although it has taken some time for him to bloom as a player, Akliouche is now emerging as one of France’s top talents, with the work Monaco put in with him paying off.

“Maghnes needed more time but, thankfully, we took the time because we now know what he is capable of. Some players are precocious, but there are some players who you have to give time.”
