Liverpool make shock move to hijack PSG transfer after several rejected bids

Liverpool have reportedly made an approach to Monaco to sign Maghnes Akliouche despite recent claims that PSG are closing in on signing the 24-year-old.

I wrote an article last week about how the dominoes in the Bradley Barcola transfer hunt were beginning to fall. This was predicated on claims from Fabrizio Romano, which said that if PSG signed Yan Diomande and Akliouche, it would open the door for Barcola to move to Anfield.

Last week it appeared as though PSG were making headway on a deal to sign Akliouche after a third offer to Monaco.

Journalist Abdellah Boulma wrote: “PSG has come back with a third offer for Maghnes Akliouche.

“While a 5-year contract awaits the player in Paris, the two clubs are gradually nearing an agreement around €45m/€50m.”

Now, it would appear as though Liverpool have sensed some sort of opening as fresh reports are now claiming that the Reds have made an initial move to sign the Frenchman.

Liverpool make initial approach to Monaco for Maghnes Akliouche

Initially, Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas posted on X stating that the Reds have made “an initial approach” to Monaco for Akliouche, with the Reds checking on the availability of the 24-year-old winger.

In a more in-depth update on the Sky Sports website, Thomas reports: “Akliouche is a prime target for Paris Saint-Germain, who have made several offers for him – none of which have been acceptable to Monaco so far.

“The most recent offer from the Ligue 1 champions is believed to be in the region of £34m (€40m).

“Andoni Iraola wants a winger, mainly for one very good reason. Mohamed Salah has not been replaced yet. This approach for Akliouche is the first sign of Liverpool finally moving on from the Egyptian King.”

Akliouche update comes after Andoni Iraola’s transfer admission

In his first pre-season press conference in Chicago, Iraola spoke to the media about injuries, transfers and more, admitting that it’s vital Liverpool sign a new winger this summer.

“We definitely need to sign a winger,” he said. “You have to always be open to new options to improve the squad.

“There are obvious situations that we know where we need to sign players. A winger, for example – we definitely need to sign a winger.

“But there are other situations that we will have to analyse what the market gives you, what’s the cost, how we also see the players we have.

“We have some tricky positions where we have injured players that we trust but is still not the ideal situation. So, it will depend on a lot of things.”
