New Lakers trade package for Jonathan Kuminga involving Bronny James revealed

A proposed sign-and-trade framework would send Bronny James, Dalton Knecht, Jaden Hardy, and a future pick swap to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Jonathan Kuminga.

The Los Angeles Lakers remain among the teams monitoring Jonathan Kuminga's situation as the NBA offseason enters its later stages.

Previous reports indicated that the Lakers and Atlanta Hawks discussed a potential sign-and-trade involving Jarred Vanderbilt and Los Angeles' 2032 first-round pick swap.

However, those talks did not progress, with Atlanta reportedly reluctant to take on Vanderbilt's $13.29 million player option for the 2027-28 season.

With the original framework failing to gain traction, alternative trade constructions have now emerged.

Potential Lakers trade package for Kuminga

According to HoopsHype's Michael Scotto, Dalton Knecht and recently acquired guard Jaden Hardy could potentially be included in a new three-team sign-and-trade structure.

Such a deal could allow Kuminga to land with the Lakers while Atlanta receives draft compensation and creates a traded player exception.

NBA reporter Evan Sidery subsequently proposed another hypothetical framework that would also include Bronny James.

Under Sidery's proposed package, the Lakers would send James, Knecht, Hardy, and their 2032 first-round pick swap to Atlanta in exchange for Kuminga.

The Lakers are not the only team interested in potentially acquiring Kuminga.

According to Scotto, the Los Angeles Clippers, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Milwaukee Bucks have also explored possible sign-and-trade scenarios.

Kuminga and his agent, Aaron Turner, are reportedly weighing several factors, including his average annual salary, contract structure, and potential role with each interested team.

There is no single salary figure Kuminga is seeking from every potential destination, as the demands could vary depending on the circumstances and roster fit.

Atlanta also remains interested in re-signing Kuminga, potentially on a one-plus-one contract.

Although LeBron James has already parted ways with the Lakers, the franchise is reportedly not looking to move Bronny simply to reunite him with his father.

Appearing on Brock & Alex on 97.1 The Fan LA, California Post reporter Khobi Price explained that the Lakers remain pleased with Bronny's development and would require meaningful value to consider trading him.

"If LeBron chooses X team, what if X team is willing to send the Lakers, I don't know, a second-round pick for Bronny James? That would automatically make Bronny James the most likely player to go there," Price said.

"Now, what I want to make clear is that the Lakers are more than happy to keep Bronny James.

"They drafted him in the second round two years ago, they developed him, and they're a fan of him. He has a lot of people who like him within the building.

"So, it's not going to be one of those situations where they're just going to send Bronny to wherever LeBron goes. It would take something real for the Lakers to want to trade him."

While the Lakers may be reluctant to move Bronny independently, including him in a package for a starting-caliber forward such as Kuminga could represent the type of significant return required for the organization to reconsider its position.
