Saudi club make contact to sign Manu Kone

Manu Kone is being eyed by Saudi Pro League club.

Liverpool remain in the market for at least one winger this summer, with contact reportedly made over Monaco star Maghnes Akliouche. Andoni Iraola has also admitted that right-back could be another area the club look to strengthen.

“I think it’s difficult to say a number (of ‌players needed) when the market is open, and you have to be always open to new options to improve the ‌squad,” the Spaniard told reporters in Chicago on Tuesday.

“There are ‌obvious situations that we know where we need to sign players. A winger, for example – we definitely need to sign a winger.

“But there are other situations that we will have to analyse what the market gives you, what’s the cost, how we also see the players we have. We have some tricky positions where we have injured players that we trust but is still not the ideal situation.”

Liverpool’s potential move for Manu Kone could face competition, with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli entering the race for the Roma midfielder.

According to Sky Sports in Switzerland, Al-Ahli have opened talks with Roma to explore the conditions of a possible transfer after being impressed by Kone’s performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The French midfielder is also attracting interest from Manchester United, while Atletico Madrid previously monitored his situation.

Although Kone is believed to favour a move to the Premier League over La Liga, he has not ruled out a switch to Saudi Arabia. Discussions are ongoing, and the midfielder’s future could become clearer in the coming weeks.

Liverpool’s long-standing interest in Manu Kone has resurfaced, with the France international once again emerging as a potential Premier League target.

Kone was previously included on Liverpool’s midfield shortlist during the club’s 2023 rebuild, with his profile appealing as they searched for a long-term successor to Fabinho’s defensive presence.

Although Liverpool went on to win the Premier League under Arne Slot in 2024-25, finding the right balance in midfield has remained an ongoing priority.

The 25-year-old is now at AS Roma and contracted until 2029, giving the Italian club a strong negotiating position should interest turn into a formal approach.
