Liverpool officially confirm pre-season friendly with Manchester United

Liverpool have officially confirmed their pre-season plans, with a final fixture against rivals Manchester United in August

Liverpool have confirmed their pre-season plans for the 2026-27 campaign, with both the men’s and women’s teams set to complete busy schedules before the start of their respective league seasons.

Andoni Iraola’s men’s side will begin preparations with a three-match tour of the United States before returning to Anfield for home friendlies against AS Monaco and Como.

The pre-season programme will allow Iraola to integrate new signings, assess his squad and fine-tune preparations ahead of Liverpool’s opening Premier League fixture against Newcastle United in August.

Away from the pitch, Liverpool continue to be linked with transfer activity. According to Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas, the club have made an initial approach for Monaco winger Maghnes Akliouche and have checked on the availability of the 24-year-old France international.

Meanwhile, Liverpool Women will play five pre-season matches before the start of the 2026-27 Women’s Super League season under head coach Gareth Taylor.

One of the standout fixtures in that schedule will see Liverpool face rivals Manchester United behind closed doors at Carrington Training Centre on August 23.

The meeting comes after another contrasting Women’s Super League campaign for the two clubs, with United finishing fourth on 40 points and narrowly missing out on European qualification, while Liverpool ended the season in 11th after Gareth Taylor’s first campaign in charge.

Manchester United completed a league double over Liverpool last season, winning 2-0 at St Helens Stadium before securing a 3-1 victory in the reverse fixture at Leigh Sports Village.

The latest pre-season meeting will give Taylor’s side an early opportunity to measure their progress against familiar opposition before the new WSL campaign begins.

Liverpool Women will begin pre-season with two behind-closed-doors fixtures at the AXA Melwood Training Centre, hosting Sheffield United on August 8 before welcoming Leicester City a week later. They will then travel to Birmingham City’s Knighthead Performance Centre on August 19 before taking on Manchester United four days later.

The Reds will conclude their preparations with a home friendly against Durham at St Helens Stadium on Sunday, August 30, with kick-off scheduled for 2pm BST.

The fixture will be the only pre-season match open to supporters and will provide fans with their first chance to watch summer signings Vivien Endemann, Sara Agrez, Mari Ward, Khiara Keating and Mao Itamura in action on home soil. Tickets for the match are now on sale.

We will play a five-game pre-season schedule culminating in a match in front of supporters at St Helens Stadium.
