Everton have secured three permanent signings in the summer transfer window so far, in Merlin Rohl, Tyrique George, and Hayden Hackney.
Unfortunately, our squad hasn't improved much despite the new additions.
George and Rohl were both at the club last season, while it's not even a guarantee that Hackney comes in to be a guaranteed starter.
I have zero issue with the signings. Rohl's loan deal was automatically made permanent, I'm happy to see George arrive on a long-term contract, and I think Hackney is a smart addition.
However, Everton now need to start improving the starting XI. The squad still has holes in it, and we need to see some new additions come through the door before the start of the season.
In order of priority, here is the signings I'd like to see Everton make.
There won't be many people holding their breath waiting to see what my priority signing is.
It is, of course, a right-back. Everton have needed one for years, and they need one more than ever right now.
I won't bore you with any more ranting, as I won't be saying anything groundbreaking that you're not all thinking anyway. Everton need a right-back more than any other position, simple.
Hackney isn't the replacement for Idrissa Gana Gueye, who, as it stands, has left the club following the end of his contract. The former Middlesbrough man is likely to play a little further forward, meaning there is a gap in the middle of the park.
Everton lined up with Tim Iroegbunam and Harrison Armstrong against Dundee, which is incredibly inexperienced.
Everton need that holding midfielder who mops everything up, sits and protects the back four, and gives freedom to the likes of James Garner, Hackney, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to flourish further forward.
Others might not feel this is as big a priorty as other positions, but for me it's something we've needed almost as long as we've needed a right-back. Someone who can win the ball back with ease, but also has the technical quality to help us build from the back.
Again, this might not be as high on other people's priority lists as it is mine.
In reality, Adam Aznou isn't going to play much next season. We need to send him out on loan to get regular minutes. No matter what you think of Aznou, David Moyes simply isn't going to give him enough minutes to help his development.
I'm fine with him going out on loan, but that does mean that a new left-back has to come in. I'd be looking at bringing in a starting left-back, with Vitalii Mykolenko as the backup.
As it stands, from last season, Everton are a winger down with Jack Grealish no longer at the club. There's a chance he returns, and if he does, we're probably fine, but if he doesn't, we need a winger.
If Ndiaye does leave the club, then we probably need more than one to come through the door.
I'd like to see us bring in a project centre-back signing. I'm thinking a Jarrad Branthwaite when we signed him from Carlisle.
Get him in, send him out on loan, and hopefully he's almost ready when the likes of James Tarkowski and Michael Keane move on.
This isn't a major, major priority, but I think it would be good to get it done as soon as possible in order to ensure they are ready when the time is right.
It's mad that this position is, for me, above other positions despite already being on the list.
Everton could deal with having one new right-back through the door and Jake O'Brien as a backup until late in the window. And if we failed to buy a second one, it wouldn't be a complete disaster.
Even still, I'd still like to see one arrive.
I'm still not sure on this one. For me, the centre-forward position isn't a huge issue. The goals Beto and Thierno Barry scored combined in the Premier League was respectable, considering they basically shared the minutes.
I'm confident they'll be fine next season, if not better, as the team around them improves. More attacking threat from full-back, better progression from deep, more possession etc.
Not a huge issue to fix, but if a nice deal comes along I wouldn't be against selling Beto to bring said player in.
After that, we're probably okay. That's seven signings there, and I think I'd be content with five of those as long as the top two arrive through the door.
