Engelland is set to join Ime Udoka's coaching staff as an assistant, where he built a strong relationship with the current Rockets head coach dating back to their San Antonio Spurs days.
Chip Engelland joins Houston Rockets as an assistant
Upon joining the Houston Rockets, Chip Engelland is set to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder after four seasons. He primarily served as a key presence on Mark Daigneault's staff, helping OKC rise from a rebuilding team to one of the NBA's best.
Engelland is prominently known for being an assistant under Gregg Popovich in the San Antonio Spurs from 2005 to 2022, helping the team's development program that strengthened the franchise into a dynasty.
Under Engelland, players like Tony Parker and Kawhi Leonard have tremendously improved their shooting mechanics en route to becoming NBA stars.
Engelland also previously served as an assistant to the Detroit Pistons (1999-2000) and the Denver Nuggets (2003-2005).
Engelland's addition should improve the Rockets' development and shooting growth, primarily for rising star Amen Thompson.
