D'Angelo Russell set to leave Grizzlies after offseason trade

D'Angelo Russell notably exercised his $5 million player option for the 2026-27 season after spending the previous year with the Dallas Mavericks.

He joined Dallas on a reported two-year, $11.7 million contract in last year's offseason and averaged 10.2 points, 4.0 assists, and 2.3 rebounds in 26 games before being traded to the Washington Wizards in the Anthony Davis blockbuster deal.

He did not play for Washington after the trade.

Russell was eventually moved to the Memphis Grizzlies this offseason through the recently finalized six-team trade that also involved the LA Clippers, Detroit Pistons, Milwaukee Bucks, Dallas Mavericks, and the Wizards.

The 30-year-old former No. 2 overall pick will suit up for his seventh NBA franchise, having previously made notable stops with the Los Angeles Lakers from 2015-2017 and 2023-2024.

Still productive enough to contribute, contending teams may pursue Russell as a key guard and additional ball handler.
