Liverpool's transfer prospects may rest on several significant sales if they wish to in any way mimic their eye-watering expense of 2025 this summer

Andoni Iraola is yet to truly stamp his own mark on the Liverpool squad as pre-season gets underway for real this weekend. However, there's a queue of rumoured targets being lined up to make the switch to Anfield at some point over the next five weeks.
Chief among those priorities is a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah following his expedited exit. However, the Reds could also do with some sales, potentially more so to free up valuable dressing room space rather than pure funds.
That being said, there's a treasure trove of talent already linked with departures who could raise in excess of £200million this summer. The ECHO considers which major names could head out the exit in the near future and add some considerable sums to the club coffers.
Harvey Elliott - £30m
Starting with what appears to be the most likely sale this summer, talk of a Harvey Elliott exit continues to gather pace. The former England youth star spent a hugely underwhelming spell as Aston Villa last season, though that hasn't really affected his valuation, which is believed to sit at around £30million.
Elliott, 23, was among the first to report back for pre-season training under Iraola this summer and is currently attempting to convince the new boss he's worth keeping on. However, in the event he's deemed surplus to requirements, both Sunderland Leeds are reportedly interested in cutting a deal.
Cody Gakpo - £60m
It should be noted that Liverpool have reportedly warded suitors off bothering with attempts to sign Cody Gakpo. However, given Tottenham's spending record so far this summer, it's not unfeasible an offer may come that simply proves too tempting to turn down.
The Dutchman's output dropped considerably last season compared to his first two-and-a-half campaigns at Anfield. However, that was perhaps to be expected as the arrivals of Hugo Ekitike, Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz left question marks as to what his role in the team really was.
There may come a point this summer where it's decided selling Gakpo now, at age 27, makes more sense than keeping him in the rotation. However, with Ekitike still on the comeback trail following a serious injury, it would need to be a mammoth offer that convinces Liverpool to cash in.
Curtis Jones - £35m

The transfer many Liverpool fans don't want and yet could easily materialise at some point in the coming weeks. Curtis Jones' situation is particularly delicate after entering the final 12 months of his contract, with rumours of interest from Inter Milan refusing to go away.
That being said, the Nerazzurri's attempts have been frustrating up to this point, lodging a second bid of £21.7m for the player despite being told his price-tag is £35m. Inter are expected to come back with a third bid for the academy graduate but may be better off focusing their efforts elsewhere unless they raise the sum significantly.
In truth, many would love to see Jones pen new terms at Anfield and extend his 16-year connection to the club, especially after proving his versatility with vital stints at right-back last season. However, the player may be a driver in his own exit if it's a more prominent role he's after and Iraola can't give him guarantees.
Federico Chiesa - £12.5m

While he's been anything but vital to Liverpool's fortunes since arriving, Federico Chiesa could have a very big hand in the club's transfer fate this summer. That's due to the fact the Reds can currently register just one more senior non-homegrown player before meeting their limit of 17, with Chiesa potentially taking up a very valuable slot if he stays.
The Italian has been linked all summer (and most of 2026) as the most likely player to leave Anfield. There's barely a team in Serie A that hasn't been associated with bringing Chiesa back to the league, though Bologna was among the more credible links to emerge recently.
Iraola has made it clear the winger, whose deal expires in 2028, will be given a chance to impress and earn his keep in pre-season. However, the wise move may be to move the player on if it helps accommodate the signing of a more credible Salah replacement.
Alexis Mac Allister - £80m

The least likely departure of any, by all accounts. However, that could all change if Real Madrid suddenly get serious about their interest in the Argentinian.
Alexis Mac Allister has been touted for a move to the Spanish capital throughout much of 2026. And speculation is once again heating up, though there would still need to be some considerable movement before an exit looks in any way likely.
Links regarding an exit are so tenuous that there is not even a reference point regarding a potential fee for the 27-year-old. Transfermarkt values the player at around £60m, though it's safe to say Liverpool would demand more, even after entering the final two years of his current contract.
That situation regarding his deal is the only question mark that could make a move plausible all of a sudden this summer. And if Liverpool suspect Mac Allister will not extend his terms, they could opt to cash in now rather than lose him in a cut-price (or worse, for free) in future windows.
