Premier League transfer news latest as Man City, Man United, Arsenal and more push to seal summer deals
We’re now less than thirty days away from the 2026/27 Premier League season getting underway, with reigning champions Arsenal kicking things off with a Friday night kick-off against Ipswich Town on 21st August. The Gunners will be going all-out to retain their league title, after ending a 22-year wait to win England’s top tier competition last season.
In the meantime, it’s all about pre-season tours for Premier League clubs, as they look to get up to speed before next month. A number of clubs will be missing key players for the initial stages of the process, with scores of the division’s top stars including Declan Rice and Pedro Porro going deep into the World Cup with their respective nations.
Today’s transfer rumour mill round-up begins at the Etihad Stadium, where Manchester City are gearing up for a new era under head coach Enzo Maresca, following Pep Guardiola’s exit. They’ve already spent £116m on Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, and Team Talk report that they’re now closing in on a move for Lille sensation Ayyoub Bouaddi.
The report says that after weeks of talks, City are now close to completing the deal, beating a host of rivals - including Arsenal, Liverpool and Man United - to his signature. City are said to be close to meeting the Ligue 1 side’s £85m valuation of the Morocco star, who will become the most expensive teenager in world football history if the deal goes through.
The 3AM Verdict: Bouaddi is a seriously talented young footballer, and it will be fascinating to see how he adapts to Premier League football. With the likes of Anderson, Rodri, Tijjani Reijnders and Nico Gonzalez there for competition, however, it’s likely that he won’t get a huge amount of minutes in his debut season at the club. Let’s hope it’s doesn’t become another Kalvin Phillips situation...

Over at Old Trafford, Man United are almost there with their big midfield rebuild. They took the footballing world by surprise with their first two choices, failing to land the likes of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes - both of whom joined Spurs - and instead going for Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos. Now it appears that PSG’s Warren Zaire-Emery could be the third and final piece of the puzzle - not that many people do three-piece puzzles, it must be said.
According to French outlet Top Mercato, United have added the 20-year-old France international to their shortlist, and are said to be preparing a £51m bid. However, PSG are believed to be unwilling to entertain United’s advances, with the player’s current contract running through until 2029 with the option to extend for an additional year.
The 3AM Verdict: United certainly look a lot stronger heading into the upcoming season, but for our money, they’ve reallynot managed to replace Casemiro with their new signings so far. Zaire-Emery is a great player, but again, he doesn’t provide the same kind of defensive robustness that Casemiro did at his best. They’d be better off pursuing Fulham’s Sander Berge, who would be a lower price option who could do the job they need and leave funds available to strengthen elsewhere.

Finishing us off, it’s over to St. James’ Park, where Newcastle United’s mass exodus continues at pace. Anthony Gordon and Tonali have already left, and now it appears that club captain Bruno Guimaraes will be heading for the exit door too, with Arsenal ready to sign him in the near future. Caught Offside claim that the Magpies have found their ideal replacement: Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Larsson.
They say that Newcastle are upping their efforts to sign the 22-year-old, who has been capped 12 times by Sweden. The North East side are said to be looking to avoid a repeat of the Alexander Isak saga last summer, which saw their star striker join Liverpool late on in the window, giving them little time to secure a decent replacement and ultimately panic-buying Nick Woltemade for £69m.
The 3AM Verdict: Larsson is a quality player, renowned for his discipline and ball retention, but doesn’t bring the relentless energy that Guimaraes has lit up St. James’ Park with over the past four-and-a-half seasons. He could end up being more of a replacement for Tonali, with plenty of money left over from their mega sales to a find more suitable option to come in for their departing skipper.
